F45 Challenge Diaries

The time has come and I am officially undertaking my second ever F45 Challenge.... EEEK.

In all honesty, I almost killed myself doing this last time, so I must be crazy to do it again... right?

F45 is Australia's fastest growing franchise, if you have't heard of it then you may as well have been living under a rock. It is team-based training where the 'F' stands for functional and the '45' stands for 45 minutes of pain. If you're not an avid gym go-er and the idea of entering a gym with no idea where to start is daunting, then F45 is the perfect place for you. The concept is simple: 45 minutes of high-intensity, circuit training where you never get the same workout twice.

The F45 Challenge is an eight-week challenge that provides you with detailed meal plans, nutritional information, supplement advice and (of course) daily workouts at your selected F45 gym.

Last year I undertook the challenge for the first time and I went into it with the mindset that I was going to do whatever it took to win - and that's what I did. I trained my ass off, followed the food plan to a tee and cut out all alcohol from my diet for 8 weeks. The results were more than 11kg in weight loss and a 7.5% reduction in my PBF (Percentage Body Fat).

What is the secret you ask? Exercise, diet and drinking as much water as I humanly could (4+ litres a day) - groundbreaking!
I've been training with F45 since 2014. I first started out at F45 Neutral Bay and then moved to F45 Drummoyne once it opened (closer to home). The fees are definitely on the pricier side - my gym charges between $55-$66pw, but I know that this price differs from gym to gym. I use the price as motivation to go even more, gotta get that value!

The challenge is hard work and not just because of the exercise regime. It is time consuming, tiring and it takes constant thought and effort. For eight weeks, your life becomes the definition of eat, train, sleep, repeat.

Like I said, you are provided with detailed meal plans. This includes two snacks, breakfast, lunch an dinner. On top of this there is a points based system where you are encouraged to earn points by completing tasks - exercising to sweat, starting your day with lemon in hot water, taking magnesium supplements, drinking 3 cups of green tea, drinking 3L of water and getting 8 hours of sleep.

While the food plan is completely laid out for you, planning, shopping and cooking is a time consuming process. You're essentially having to prepare 5 meals a day and this was one of the tasks that I found hardest - but it does get easier as the weeks pass. One of the biggest pros of this challenge is the community that surrounds it. There are thousands of people across the world going through the same journey as you, at no point do you feel along.

So why am I doing it again?

I wish I could sit here and honestly write that I maintained the diet and kept all of the weight off, but that would be a lie. I have always been someone who struggles with my weight. My partner worded it perfectly when he stated that the whole time he's known me I've either been putting weight on or losing it. I'm an all or nothing type of person and this is something that I need to work on. I need to be able to find the right balance where I can maintain a healthy lifestyle rather than yo-yoing with my weight.

On the 8th of Sept 2018 I will be getting married in Berry NSW and like every other bride, I want to look my best. I have finished my Christmas, NYE and January birthday bulk (whoops) and it is now officially time to start 'shredding for the wedding'.

Throughout the next 8 weeks I will be checking back in with you guys to give some updates on how I'm going with my 'F45 Challenge Diaries'. I will take you through my favourite recipes and any tips, tricks and hacks that I discover along the way. so from the 15th of January until the 16th of March I will be training my little heart out and giving this challenge my all - wish me luck!

*If you're doing the challenge you may notice that my dates are slightly different. I am heading to Europe on the 16th of March so decided to move the 8 weeks two weeks earlier :)

Everyone meet Daisy <3

Hope you are having a good week so far, and a lovely start to 2018! We've been sick, so not the best start to the year, but it can only get better from here right? haha.
